The Vale
The flat, prosperous middle of the county, served by the A1(M) and the A19. Operationally the easiest ground in North Yorkshire — until you reach a city centre.
What this height does to a move
This is the part of the county that behaves like everywhere else. Good roads, gentle gradients, no weather closures worth the name, and the A1(M) running straight up the middle of it.
Most long-distance moves into North Yorkshire come this way and then branch, which also makes the Vale the natural staging ground when an address further up is unreachable by a full-size vehicle.
The exception is the historic centres. York inside the bar walls is medieval, with bollards, timed access restrictions, cobbles and streets a full-size vehicle simply cannot enter — and it is the one place in the Vale where a shuttle is routine rather than unusual.
The properties up here
Georgian townhouses and Victorian terraces in York and Malton, substantial 1930s and post-war family housing around Northallerton and Thirsk, and a great deal of new-build on the edges of everywhere. The widest spread of property types in the county.
